Crucifixion, Zbigniew Dowgiałło
Crucifixion, fragment of the face of Jesus, 2012, oil, canvas, 460x540cm
The Crucifixion painting is a modern version of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
The main message of the painting is Absolute Love in the form of Jesus, which saves the world and people.
In this painting, Jesus does not die, which is the artist's personal vision, but forgives everyone and conveys Love.
The artist's extraordinary achievement is that the eyes of Jesus look at the viewer positioned at any arbitrary point; on the left side of the image, on the right, in the middle, at the top and at the bottom. The eyes of Jesus pierce the viewer with the transcendence of existence, giving a chance for eternal love.
Viewing the painting from above is only possible in large exhibition halls with mezzanines.
The painting was created under the influence of terrible experiences in August 2010 on Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw, of which the artist was an eyewitness. It was then that Dowgiałło experienced a vision and an internal command to paint such a picture - a vision of the Crucifixion in the form of forgiveness and Love.
Preparatory and design work took two years, the painting was created in 2012.
This painting deals with an absolute topic and connects spiritually with all persecuted people around the world today.
In artistic form, this painting is a continuation and creative development of the works of the greatest masters of painting of the Europe; especially Masaccio, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Jacopo Tinoretto, El Grecca, Francisco Goya, Vincent Van Gogh, Edvard Munch.
This painting is the first such a huge painting in 300 years showing the Crucifixion in modern times.
The return to art based on spiritual values and the highest artistic form creates a completely new quality and sets a new direction in world art.
